As we move through the components of the Learning Style Profile (Rydell, 2012), we will focus on the very challenging area of shared control. Many of our individuals with ASD exhibit difficulties interacting and participating with others if he or she is not in control of the agenda. Individuals with ASD may become very anxious, nervous and eventually emotionally dysregulated when asked to follow or share in a partner's agenda. We will offer practical teaching, therapy and social interaction suggestions of how to facilitate increased participation and emotional regulation in individuals with ASD when asked to participate in activities that require reciprocal interactions and shared agendas in order to promote increased social learning.
