[Autism Society Greater Tucson] Autism therapies for middle schoolers

Hi all -

I was curious about parenting strategies accross summer for kids with HFA? Philisophically do most parents of 4th-8th grade kids do heavy intervention in the summer to try to get ahead or take a break? Any recommendations parents have recieved from professionals in this light. I'm trying to get perspective for my relative with two autistic kids that are very high functioning, that really could benefit from social skills coaching/experiences primarily along with some ligherpragmatic language support. The need is not for strictly 'safe daycare' in the summer, but instead we're looking for what others might be doing for more mindful social interaction opportunities to practice social cognitive skills. Does one just toss them in regular camps and go to observe and coach post facto from said camps/activities?- or offer to be an 'aide' during regular camps, or send an actual aide in as a social coach with regular camp (kind of like an aid in mainstream classroom), or are there any great social skills coaching based summer experiences for HFA Aspergers kiddos in Tucson? I would say her kids again appear more typical, so not needing basic level coping skills, but more nuanced next level social skills coaching. Thanks for any perspective for kids like our family's or leads for Tucson summer activities. Laura
